I’ve just seen this shot in my google reader via suscription and I say to myself “Oh, is really beautiful”. Great shot, the position of the boy and the protagonism of the dark sky is wonderful here. The curve is very important too to make this shot so interesting.
Very nice motion ! I like the composition, curves and tones ! It seems to be a night shot, but there is any visible light, and the skateboarder is moving. I’d like to know a little bit more about the way you did this. Is it a dayly capture ?
Boris and Girish, thanks for your questions…firstly it was shot on a sunny day and according to the file info, at about 13.00 hours.
I converted it to monochrome using the black & white converter in Photoshop CS3, (which is not available in earlier versions). In the drop down menu I selected the “high contrast red filter”, which gave me a dark sky, but unfortunately some banding too. I removed that by reducing the blue channel which brought the sky and sea almost black and slightly adjusted the other channels until it gave me the effect that I wanted. Finally I added a very slight tint of blue/green and that was it.
Although a fairly recent follower, I haven’t seen anything like this from you. This is a very cool shot! Thank you for explaining the steps, because I would have asked as well. Monochrome fits this shot perfectly. Everything is so crisp! Great work!

Amazing night capture! The scene feels like it could be floating in space, or be a computer render. I am awed.

I so agree with PhotoGeek. This is so awesome, looks like a part of the Starship Enterprise in space

Interesting post processing. It almost looks like a IR although not.
