I LOVE this one. Love the contrast. Love the juxtaposition of manmade and natural. Man’s attempt to harness nature. I think it would add to the story if there was a little motion blur in the blades. Great shot.
Matt, I think that you’re absolutely correct, a bit of blur would have helped, but the gusty weather conditions meant that the blades were feathered.
The strange thing was that when I shot the photograph the lighting was interesting and changing rapidly, but it didn’t translate to the image – so it nearly became a reject. When it was transposed to monochrome however, it started to look more interesting and after a bit of work (read playing about!) I managed to enhance its appearance. Never say die!
Yeah, this one sings as a black and white. I also like how you pushed the blacks all the way. I’ve heard a lot of “experts” say you shouldn’t have blown whites or dropped blacks. But I love the way that looks. I try to push the histogram on my black and whites all the way to both edges.
