Reputed to be the most photographed artefact in Ireland, the Poulnabrone Dolmen (Poll na mBrón in Irish meaning “hole of sorrows”) is a portal tomb situated in the Burren in County Clare; when excavated in 1985, it revealed the remains of between 16 and 22 adults and 6 children buried underneath it.
It dates from Neolithic times and it’s estimated that it was constructed sometime between 4000 BC to 3000 BC. Just a mere 6,000 years old!
Its the clouds make this one. It almost looks as if there is a solid barrier of some kind just above those clouds like smoke in a burning building flowing under a ceilling.
Sorry the juices got going again.
Fantastic shot! I feel there is a little too much of the black area below the horizon but that’s just a personal taste thing – doesn’t stop it being an excellent image. Hope you don’t mind me saying
I know, i have already commented on this image, but now I saw Adrian’s comment about the black bit on the bottom… Adrian, I am afraid I disagree. This image is perfectly balanced, especially with the black bit. The black needs to be there, just as it is. But then, I am always happy to see bloggers giving comments like yours. There is definitly too much “honey around the mouth” in the photoblogging scene, so please, go on, giving “critic” comments… but only if the image really needs to be criticised..
Thank you, it’s good to see the comments that Heidi and Adrian have left. Like beauty, composition is in the eye of the beholder, it’s not a finite art and you’re probably both right according to the way that you each visualise scenes. I think that Heidi’s right, but then again as Mandy Rice-Davis said “I would say that wouldn’t I!…”
