The Languedoc-Roussillon Region in the South of France
The Languedoc-Roussillon region in the south of France (to give its full title), borders the Mediterannean to the
east and the Pyrenees to the south. It benefits from an exceptional climate, particularly during October when it is
sunny and warm, but not hot - and the lighting is wonderful.
It abounds with photogenic locations like the Canal du Midi, salt mountains, ancients cities and towns. There are
ancient fortified villages set on hill tops, round in design and called circulades; there are cathedrals and castles
from the time of the Cathar Crusades, along with national parks of spectacular mountain beauty. These pictures
were selected to illustrate the potential of the region and to whet your appetite. If you would like to read more about
the Languedoc region, click HERE for more information.
The region is also famed for its cuisine, particularly its seafood and thick peasant stews, all accompanied by
wonderful wines... and that reminds me, Petra Carter is a long-time friend. If you would like to attend one of Petra's
workshops to learn cookery, fine art or creative writing, then click HERE for her 2008 program.
If you would like to see more workshop locations, take a look at the short YouTube video, accessed from the link on
the Novice and Advanced French Workshop pages.
